About DARREN BRINKWORTH

Born in 1966, I have lived in Nuneaton all my life, and passed my own driving test in March 1987. I worked within the 'Body in White' (body-shop) of a French car plant in Coventry, completing over 20 years service before redundancy was forced upon me when the company closed the plant in January 2007.
At this time I underwent retraining to become a DVSA qualified driving instructor.
I have been driving for 31 years, 11 of those as a Driving Instructor; a job that I am passionate about. It is that passion that drives me (no pun intended) to pass on my wealth of experience to the next generation of 'would be' drivers, in the hope that they will have a fruitful and enjoyable 40 or so years of safe driving, that will allow them the freedom to go anywhere at any time and pursue any job around the country should they so choose.
Getting started
You will need to apply for a Provisional licence.
You need to be 17 years of age to take driving lessons on UK roads. You can apply for a Provisional Driving Licence by completing a D1 Form, available from the Post Office or you can apply online here

You can even apply 3 months in advance so that you have receipt of your licence and can have a driving lesson on the big day; great for a birthday gift perhaps!
The law states that drivers must be able to read a clean (with the aid of glasses or contact lenses if necessary) number plate made after 1st September 2001, from a distance of 20 metres; pre-September 2001 number plate lettering was slightly larger and shall be required to read them from 20.5 metres.
Eyesight requirements
Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) research shows that the current average is 47 hrs of tuition with an additional 20 hrs of private practice. However, Brinky’s Driving Academy recognises that no two pupils are alike and therefore actual lesson requirement can increase / decrease dependant on the individual’s skill set and capabilities.
How Many lessons will I need?
Before booking a Practical Driving Test, the DVSA website booking service requires you to to have Sat and successfully passed your Theory Test you can book this by clicking here. The nearest place to sit this from Nuneaton is Coventry. You will find a map by clicking here

The system will prompt you for your provisional driving licence number so it maybe a good idea to have this at hand before going on the site.
BOOKING A THEORY TEST
TUITION AND LESSONS
All lessons are delivered on a 1-1 basis and cover a variety of subjects; there is no magical equation to work out the amount of lessons that will be required in order to achieve test standard driving ability. Each pupil will learn to drive at their own pace, this will very much depend on the individual’s Aptitude, motivation, length of and frequency of lessons, and the ability of the pupil in retaining knowledge and skill sets learned from one lesson / week to the next.

At Brinky’s Driving Academy, pupils can expect to be given accelerated learning leaflets from time to time, to help them digest and retain information. This in turn will help the pupil to develop as a driver.
Lessons are adapted to meet the needs of the pupil.

Lesson duration is a minimum of 1 hrs sessions and lessons are charged on an hourly rate, but 1.5hr and 2hr lessons are available (subject to instructor diary availability) to those pupils that are interested. In this case, the lesson prices will be altered respectively in line with the hourly rate.
For those individuals that have had more extensive driving experience E.G. previous full licence holder that has lost their licence for legal reasons, we offer a 2hr driving assessment to determine how many lessons are likely to be required, to bring them back up to driving test standard and enable us to go and book a test date and test. This is also priced at the hourly rate.
